Hazardous Area & Intrinsic Safety
The sensing unit is intrinsically safe / rated EEx ia IIC T4 (or similarly) so it can be used in explosive atmospheres.
Construction Materials
The tank unit (radar head) uses a Teflon (PTFE) plate (lens) toward the cargo side; body is made of acid-resistant stainless steel (AISI 316) or similar. No parts of the sensing head are submerged / in contact with the cargo.
Operating Parameters
For GLA-100 / GLK-100:
• GLK-100 (processing unit): Operating voltage ~ 250 VAC, ambient temperature from approx -40 °C to +80 °C.
Accuracy & Free Path Considerations
The radar beam must have a free path from the antenna to the bottom of tank over a diameter of about 1/5-1/6 of tank height; if obstructions are present, a standpipe may be required. Ullage readings are corrected to the manual reference point (ullage hatch) using trim & list compensation.
Alarm System
High level / overfill alarms: with high level switches (GL-7A series) for each cargo/service tank. Visual and audible alarms in control room & deck (including horn / flashing lights). Self-monitoring of alarm circuits. Zener barriers for cables etc
Display / Monitoring
In addition to local level readout, the system provides volume / corrected ullage displays, taking into account trim & list, possibly manual input of fuel/draft etc.
